PostPost subject: Taern Reply with quote

Name: Taern (Because they are creations I assumed they didn't get last names, let me know if I'm wrong)

Age: 431
Age Appearance: mid 20s

Gender: Male
Species/Race: Winged (Demon)

Appearance: Taern towers above most others at a staggering height of 6' 4" and appears to have a lean, muscular build of 204 lbs even though his true weight is a mystery. As with all Winged, he maintains his waist-length hair as his status as a capable warrior, and often adorns his coiffure with beads, feathers or other similar baubles.

At one point, his countenance was much fairer but, after the genetic enhancement a percentage of his brothers and sisters suffered, he gained a slightly greater body mass and his hair colour became black while his eyes turned into a dark brown hue. Tearn resents his transformation, not because he is now significantly darker, but because those which he once considered family have turned their backs to him.

Forced to fend for himself in a post war-torn world, Taern has self-taught himself swordmanship and keeps a fairly light short-sword strapped to his side in complement to the bow and arrows upon his back, which he his highly proficient with. Taern wears very little protection aside from leather boots and breastplate, primarily because he doesn't want to be weighted down when flying and secondly, because he can't afford more expensive armor.

Taern has no distinguishing marks but he can be easily identified by the silver pendant he wears about his neck which he never removes, even while bathing.

[I'll try to find a suitable picture]

Personality: Due to his exile and lack of interaction with other races, Taern may come across as anti-social to anyone else. He possesses very dry humor and, coupled with the fact that he's not afraid to speak his own mind, others may find him to be very offensive. Taern also reveres his personal space and, while that doesn't mean he won't let others get to know him better, he is known to physically shove anyone who stands too close or makes him feel uncomfortable. Despite his unapproachable demeanour, Taern is drawn to, and encourages the companionship of innocence, hence, he will talk openly with and, on rare occasions, play with young children. This is because of his reverence to his patron saint, Alma, who gave her life to protect children and Taern, who aspires to be like her, feels that if he emulates her benevolent sacrifice that he will earn her praise.

Actually, Taern's devotion to Alma governs every decision he makes which, sometimes, has morally questionable and disastrous effects on their own. While he is willing to sacrifice his life for children, he refuses to do likewise for anyone who has reached the age of accountability and assumes that everyone of a particular age is prepared to give their life in exchange for the life of a child, which is sometimes seldom the case.

Taern also believes that mature individuals should 'know better' and has zero tolerance for vapid remarks or stupid questions and usually replies in turn with cruel sarcasm. Surprisingly enough, he is not that quick to anger unless one insists on provoking his rage, then he may become physically violent which could escalate to manslaughter.

But Taern is not a completely heartless man. He is capable of showing love and affection to a significant other, even though he is unable to handle them gently. Because of his origins and self-imposed seclusion from others, Taern tends to be very awkward, rough and focused on his own needs when it comes to sex. He knows how intercourse works but has never devoted the time to explore it with another person. He's only garnered what little information he has from the animal kingdom and believes that the same rules apply with the bipedal and sentient thinking races.

History: During the war, Taern was one of the few Winged that ventured down from the mountains to engage in the battle. As the war raged and the enemy seemed insurmountable, a percentage of his race was transformed into stronger, more battle-hardened creatures by black magic, giving their side an even greater advantage. Those that were spared the mutation, saw the enhancement as an abomination and shunned those that were now referred to as Demons.

Taern willingly abandoned his home, refusing to fight for his right to remain, unlike some others who would be leaving their loved ones behind. As a creation, he had no family in the traditional sense, and thus, had no problem severing the bonds he had formed with his brothers and sisters.

As time progressed, Taern soon learned that survival was much easier with a means to defend oneself as he had the misfortune of meeting many brigands, bandits and thieves during his travels. The disposal of these miscreants was two-fold as he usually got to keep whatever loot they were carrying and, as long as he could provide proof of their identities, authorities in nearby towns were willing to pay handsome rewards.

Aside from hunting the bounties of dangerous criminals, Taern has also lent a helping hand on farms in exchange for a hot meal and a warm bed and, despite his sometimes intimidating looks, he has been eagerly offered hospitality for his aid to poor and unfortunate souls trying to repair the damage done to their livelihood and community by the war.

Occupation/Job: Traveller. Taern will perform any odd job or task he comes across as long as it pays well.

Interesting Facts/Quirks: Taern is very devoted to his patron saint, Alma, and the necklace he wears was commissioned by himself as a periapt to her. He will never remove it and gets very offended if anyone suggests he sell or pawn it to pay for his meals even though it is worth quite a bit.

Taern is still a virgin.

Taern actually cannot use his sword very well and only has it for just-in-case measures or to attempt to intimidate his opponents.

A side effect of his 'Demon' mutation; Taern's wings sometimes manifest against his will. He tries to ignore it when it happens but it sometimes embarrasses him.

Oddly enough, as much as Taern hates getting his wings wet, he loves swimming.

Hobby/Hobbies: Praying. Swimming.

Likes: Innocence, whether it is from children or adults. Animals.

Dislikes: People pulling on his feathers. Getting his wings wet. People standing too close to him.

Strength: Taern is very skilled with a bow and arrow and long-range combat. His persistence and warrior's pride spur him to keep on fighting and, even though the odds may be stacked against his favor, he refuses to surrender or concede defeat.

Weakness/Flaw: Although he is slightly stronger than regular Winged, Taern is not very accomplished in close combat. His over-zealous devotion to Alma has led to him creating his own dogma that dictates every decision he makes to the point where he can scarcely make a decision for himself. Taern also has a very low constitution and succumbs to alcohol, herbal effects and most medications or drugs very quickly.

Anything else to add: Taern's affection towards small children may be sometimes construed as something it's not.

Roleplay Sample: Taern smiled as Kyne ran up and presented him a sole dandelion. "Look, Taern," the boy flashed him a grin, displaying the gap where he'd lost his first baby tooth. "It'sh the biggesht one I could find."

The larger man got down on his knees but was still much too tall to meet his eyes on a level keel. "Mm, hm," he nodded in agreement and examined the bright, yellow flower from many angles. "That's the biggest one you've showed me all day.

Kyne giggled and added it to the pile he'd accumulated next to Taern's workstation and Taern would have lectured him on the dangers of playing around such a dangerous area but, as long as he stayed away from the tools in the workshop, then he saw no need to chase the child outside. Kyne rubbed his muddy fingertips into his already dirty clothes and got down to the floor where he worked diligently making a crown of flowers for his mother. "When I'm finished I can make one for you too," he promised.

Taern felt touched and reached out to gently stroke a ruddy cheek with his knuckles. "I'd appreciate that," the Demon smiled and leaned forward to plant a tender kiss against the top of his head before rising to his full height and returning to work.
