Muzen

[Imagined By: Lid'l]

Name: Muzen.

Classification: Demon.

Rarity: Muzen are rather rare, seeing they cannot produce Muzen offspring unless both parents are full-blood. If one parent is of another race, the child will take on the genetics of that race.

Lifespan: About two times a human lifespan. The oldest known Muzen lived to be 214 years.

Appearance: Muzen are very androgynic. They are born neuter and posses very little to no gender-specific traits until they grow into their sex. They are mostly pale and have hair resembling that of a human: blonde, ginger, brown or black. The hair is soft and often straight or slightly wavy, but never overly curly. Muzen always have lavender-coloured eyes, though they can vary in intensity. Their bodies are thin and frail and lack the impressive muscle structure seen in humans or other demons. Muzen males can grow some muscle when they adapt to their gender, but they will never become bulky. The Muzen's ears are slightly pointed and also grow out after they adapt.

Gender: Muzen are born genderless and will remain as such until they mate with someone else (no matter what race) for the first time. They grow into the opposite gender of the one who they share their first mating with (if both partners are sexless Muzen, they remain without gender). After the first time of mating, the Muzen's ears grow out to resemble those of an elf and they may grow some gender-specific traits such as small breasts and proper genitals. No facial hair, though.

Strengths: Nimble, light on their feet, excellent hand-eye coordination.

Weaknesses: Frail bodies, no magical powers, thin bloodline because half-blood offspring will not have Muzen blood.

Skills/Abilities: Muzen are real merrymakers and they have the ability to inspire happiness and cheerfulness in people, bringing out their best.

General Personalities: Gentle and soft-spoken, a Muzen will never look for a fight. They are prone to look for the company of others, because they dislike being lonely. Family and friends are very important to the Muzen and are handled with the utmost respect and care. They are a generally cheerful people with a love for celebrations, but they hardly ever get rowdy when they party. Music and dance are their trades and it comes natural to them, many Muzen choosing a profession in those areas.

History: The Muzen history traces back long before the War. Their numbers have been steady throughout history because they have never had a real homeland. The Muzen have always been nomads of some sort, travelling and only sometimes settling down for family life. They have been and still are known to be great performers and have never done anything else but to live up to their good name. When the Great Magic War came about, many Muzen refused to fight, thinking the War was silly. Needless to say, many Muzen lost their lives during the War. Others marched with the armies of magical creatures as motivators, keeping the fighting spirit high with songs and dance (and an occasional rump - many still sexless Muzen grew to be female during the war). After the War, all Muzen painted their eyes red in mourning, though their festive personalities don't give away they are a people that is grieving the losses of the War for both sides.

Interesting Facts: Though they are scattered throughout the world and can be found in all kinds of places, the Muzen have certain customs they all abide to. These customs have been delivered from parent onto child and are very important to them. A lot of customs have been lost along the years, but there are a few characteristic fun and interesting facts that have survived the sands of time:

[1] Marking the eyes when in mourning: The Muzen paint the skin around their eyes red when they are in mourning over the loss of a loved one. The markings are usually shaped after a trail of tears, but other shapes can be seen as well.

[2] Affinity with butterflies: The Muzen attract butterflies. They have a deep respect for the little creatures and will go out of their way to save them. If one would encounter a Muzen, a butterfly can't be far off.

[3] Muzen feasts: Another interesting fact is that the Muzens are known for their abundant and colourful parties. They sing and dance beautifully and know how to eat and drink! It is even said they are the inventors of several very interesting musical instruments such as the nyckelharpa and the hurdy gurdy. Needless to say, many Muzens know how to play these instruments.

[4] No meat: Though fond of good food and the smell does attract them, the Muzen do not eat meat of any kind. It makes them weak and sick, causing severe stomach ache and fever. Fish and eggs are okay, though.

[5] Names: Muzen are often named after anything musical and festive. For instance, there might be a Muzen out there with names such as 'Nocturne', 'Aria', 'Arabesque' or 'Duende'. When the child of a Muzen parent isn't full-blood, they often pick a more generic name for them.

Aging: 1 Muzen year = 2 human years.
