Because Kia prolly won't live to see the summer, I thought I'd type up something sweet to show people his other side (the side he doesn't show when interacting with others). Done in 30 minutes, at work (BAD LID'L!!), so nothing spectacular, but I wanted something light and fluffy.

---

The forest was quiet. Kia had done his job well. The other Beast Masters of his clan knew better than to follow him all the way out here, he had made it crystal clear to them that it wasn’t appreciated. Even the animals seemed reluctant to approach him when he was by Willow’s side. Not because he radiated such an angry aura that it scared even the animals, but the opposite: Kia was calm. So very calm, his presence was close to unnoticed in the flow of magical energy that caressed the forest.

The Beast Master sat with his back to the bark of the willow tree, very aware of his own heartbeat and the throb of his own magic. He thought he could feel the tree behind him resonate in unison. His legs were drawn up underneath him, naked feet stained with earth. Stretching lazily, like a cat in the sun, Kia arched his back against the tree. He wondered.

He had only seen the creature for an instant, but they had been a vision of gentle beauty. A spirit so pure and kind that Kia couldn’t help falling in love with them. He longed to touch the silky hair, to cup the fair face and to call the creature his, but all he could have were these quiet afternoons at the Willow Tree. Would he ever be able to meet the creature again? The Beast Master rubbed his long-nailed fingers against the bark of the tree, feeling it jagged edges press into the soft skin. They were nothing more than a tree now. Why? Had he scared the creature that much?

Kia concentrated the flow of his magic and drew the dark markings of a raging Beast Master back into his core, revealing a layer of sunkissed, cinnamon-coloured skin. It wasn’t often he would go unmarked like this. Somehow, his irritation level was so high he permanently wore the markings of an angry Beast Master, but not today.

Letting his head fall back in his neck, Kia looked up to the crown of the tree, the play of sun through the Willow’s branches tickling his cheeks. He listened to the rush of he trees leaves, trying to discern something – anything – from its sound, but it was a language he didn’t understand. He’d asked the birds if they knew, but their thoughts were too chaotic for him to understand.

“I love you, you know?” he asked the tree and the wind picked up to answer him. A small smile forced its way onto Kia’s face, the ever scrunched up features relaxed now.

He could sleep like this. He wouldn’t, too watchful and alert to completely allow himself that luxury. But he could. And he would dream of the beautiful white-haired creature that had stolen his heart.

*laughs* So glad. I like side-stories. They are good for character insight. *nods*
