PostPost subject: Sky Aquila Reply with quote

Name: Sky Aquila

Age: 20
Age Appearance: Is often mistaken for being younger…among other things…

Gender: Female. Yes, really.

Species/Race: Fortune Teller

Appearance:

Personality: It should come as no surprise that Sky is a very boyish young lady. She dresses like a boy, acts like a boy, has an androgynous name, has a very skinny boyish figure with no curves and a flat chest, and is always mistaken for a boy—something she in fact never corrects because she prefers to be treated as a boy.

Sky isn’t exactly a complete FTM transsexual—it doesn’t kill her inside that she has a vagina instead of a penis and she doesn’t particularly wish for one. She just prefers to present herself as male, and prefers how she is treated when she presents herself that way as opposed to female. Sky doesn’t really know how to describe the way she feels about her gender, other than saying she feels about half-and-half. If it were absolutely necessary to put a label on herself, she’s probably closer to a transvestite or even gender queer than an actual transsexual—not that people in Qyuvena would know what any of that means anyway. To most people, she’s just a young boy. Most people who eventually find out the truth often feel betrayed and upset with her—something she doesn’t entirely understand because she doesn’t consider what she does a real ‘lie’.

Sky is very daring and adventurous—always wanting to experience new things. When not ‘on the job’, Sky can’t stand just sitting still and doing nothing. However, she isn’t into partying and random flings like her brother. She simply likes exploring the city, which she pretty much knows like the back of her hand by now, and meeting new people. She’s very curious and stubborn—two traits that occasionally get her into trouble, but she’s very good at talking her way out of problems even if she doesn’t have River around to help her.

She doesn’t think about either sex or romance very much, and has never been in a serious relationship because, well, how is she going to find somebody who understands her gender-quirkiness anyway? Her gender-confusion makes it difficult for her to get close and trust people, for fear of being constantly rejected for who she is. If she did find someone understanding enough to accept her as she is, that would be pretty great, but Sky isn’t really counting on it.

History: (More details in River’s history)

With their mother gone and their father in a very angry and practically ever-lasting state of depression, Sky tended to get the worse of his anger. He hated how she dressed and acted like a boy—which she has been doing for pretty much all of her life. However, despite her father’s hatred toward her, Sky refused to give in and just act like the girl he wished her to be. She wanted to present herself the way she wanted to, and was too stubborn to give in.

She often envied that River hardly got the kind of abuse she got from their father, but she never blamed him for not intervening—it was their father, and they were both young and naďve and didn’t know what to do about it other than deal with it. Sky suspects a lot of River’s bad behavior may in part be a result of feeling guilty for not trying to help her during those times—and she’s probably right.

Now, free from their family’s chains and on their own, they started up their ‘fortune telling’ business, which Sky LOVES. For River, it’s more of a ‘necessity’ he has to get out of the way each day before he can go out and feed his addictions. Sky, however, is always thinking of their business—how to improve upon it, how to improve upon their own powers, how to get their name out, etc. She was already an outcast for being who she is anyway, so she never particularly cared that they became ‘outcasts’ of their own race.

Occupation/Job: They are…Fortune Teller Fortune Tellers?

Interesting Facts/Quirks: Sky REALLY likes butler-esque clothing. Not only does this lead people to believe she’s a boy, but she’s often mistaken for a Dream Walker as well.

Hobby/Hobbies: Exploring, trying new and exotic foods, running their fortune telling business, teaching herself to sword-fight.

Like: Chit-chatting with people, swords, spicy food, boy clothes.

Dislikes: River’s opium stinking everything up, dancing (two left feet!), sour foods, people making a huge deal about her ‘real’ gender.

Strength: Sky never had proper training concerning fighting, but is fairly decently self-taught with a sword. Through her self-teaching, she’s improved her reflexes and is fairly faster than most Fortune Tellers.

While River is probably more book-smart, Sky is definitely much more street-smart. Probably more people-smart too—you pretty much have to be when you present yourself as the opposite gender, right?

Weakness/Flaw: Not very strong physically, lacking magic, and slow healer when it comes to getting sick or wounded. Also gets sick fairly easily.

Anything else to add: She really doesn’t mind dressing as a girl all that much if there is some reason she absolutely has to, but she won’t wear anything too girly if that is the case. Pink, ruffles, stuff like that is a NO. However, she has yet to encounter a situation where that was at all necessary.
