“Captain! Please dun beh doin' tat!”

Bailey tucked an arm behind his back, brown-gloved hands cupping his arms behind him as he paced along the railing on the left side of the ship. The choppy waves sent the ship up and down, leaving it rocky and wild but not seeming to bother him too much. The Pirate Captain kept his balance without even a smidgen of worry. His booted feet clunked against the railing as he walked along it back and forth until he sighed. He flicked the tip of his hat up a tad, exposing his one exposed eye and his other patched one.

“It's official....” He trailed off with a sigh, his long brown, leather coat slapping at his legs as the salty winds thrashed at his clothing. Black hair, flying around to tickle his face and neck. “We are completely lost!”

His crew seemed worried but not particularly surprised. It's hard not to get lost when the whole sea isn't mapped and your insane captain wishes to be the one to do it. Bailey's lips cracked into a smile, that brightened his face, giving his cheeks a certain plump, youth-like look. “This is absolutely great! This means we've probably gotten into more dangerous waters, haven't we? Excellent! Just excellent! I wonder what kind of sea creatures swim these waters?” The dangerous glint his eyes made most of his crew make the sign of the cross along their chests.

Bailey jumped down from the railing and pointed forward, his grin seeming wild. “Forward! And bring out some of the pig's blood! We want to catch a big one today!”

Merry yawned. He lay propped up on a collection of old rope, his arms crossed on his stomach. He had spend the better part of the day helping out the crew and tarring the ropes, but he had grown tired after awhile and had decided he could afford to take a little nap. Bailey knew what he was doing, after all. The pirate captain didn’t need a dysfunctional fisherman to tell him what to do. That was just plain silly. So Merry had kicked back and relaxed as they sailed the open waters, reveling in the cadence of the waves and the salty air sticking to his tanned skin. He had never been on this big a ship before.

Even when the crew started to express their worries about their captain’s plans, Merry just yawned again and unceremoniously scratched the back of his head. He ventured a look over his shoulder and through the strands of his dirty blonde hair, he could see the Great Pirate Bailey call for pig’s blood. There was an excited grin on the man’s face, almost resembling that of a small child. His fiancé would have gone gaga for a smile like that, but Merry couldn’t be bothered to find it cute. It was just Bailey.

“Oi.” One of the deck hands, a scrawny lad with big wet eyes, looked at him worriedly. “Ye dun reckon the captan’s serious, aye? I hear there’s squids the size of whales in these waters.”

Merry turned his head to regard the sea. Its dark blue depths revealed nothing to him. He shrugged, not minding. Though not a big fan of fish, Merry did like squid. The corner of his mouth twitched. He waved a hand at the boy lazily. He would have thought that the crew had learned by now that they couldn’t expect a decent, vocal answer from him. So why was the kid asking him? Maybe he was just looking for comfort or confirmation that their captain wasn’t a loony, but Merry had nothing to give. He stretched and scratched the side of his ribs. Ropes were itchy. Pushing himself up to his full length, Merry towered out over the deck hand by a head and a half. Without as much of a goodbye, the fisherman turned and lazily trudged his way to the captain, stifling a yawn as he went. When he was close enough to the other, he prodded Bailey in the side with a finger.

Water sloshed lazily against the tub, waves gently rocking the little makeshift boat. A hand dangled into the water, dipping into the unknown depths every now and then before the tub rocked the other way and it was exposed to the sun once more.

Inside of the tub a man lay, folded up into himself as a ridiculously wide rimmed hat provided his face shelter from the burning sun. His once pitch black coat was now dulled to a dark grey, with some patched lighter then others. It was clear that salt water was not something his coat agreed with.

With a mild groan, the man gave his arm a tug and pulled it back into the tub. A fish was trying to nibble on his finger and the unfamiliar feeling had woken him up. He was not feeling very happy at the moment. Blinking groggily as salt water had pasted his eyelids together, he stretched, tipping the tub back and sloshing more water over the edge.

"Water?" Looking around, he could see nothing but the vast, glittering blue of the ocean. Peeking down, he noticed that he was fully clothed and still had all of his possessions, so he wasn't robbed. And even if he was, what kind of robber put their victims into a tub like this? Rubbing his eyes and yawning, he thought back at the last thing he remembered.

Something about a drinking game, a card game, then a drinking game that involved cards, some scantily clad lady rubbing her pelvis up against his hips and he removing her from his body with a knife. Ah. Maybe he shouldn't have done that in a full bar. The alcohol had probably made sure that his reaction speed wasn't up to par.

Still, he grouched, that was no reason to dump him like this. Although it was quite funny. A giggle escaped him as he dug through his pockets to see if he had anything to eat or drink and he sighed as the search turned up negative. Oh well. Another giggle. It wasn't as if he was going to die.

The crew watched as their Captain placed his hands on his hips, and tilted his chin up, as if he had done something grand. He even gave a triumphant laugh which was soon cut off as he felt the finger prod him in his waist. He choked on his laugh, obviously gagging on air and saliva that had gotten stuck in his throat. He coughed and heaved until he managed to unlock his throat and breath once more. "The...HELL! Don't interrupt me while I'm lau- Merry!" His voice suddenly turned sweet on the other's name. He jumped down from the railing with a thunk and threw an arm over the other's neck, pulling the fisherman close.

"There you are! I seem to always be missing you around here! You are ready for our new adventure, aren't you?" He questioned before he laughed and slapped the other on the back, knowing he wouldn't be able to answer. "Of course you are! I can feel the excitement seething through your skin! You know, it's no wonder we get along so well." He nodded. seriously. Bailey's crew merely looked at them before sighing and resuming their work.

"And you know, if we happen to find some beast in the sea worth a good bounty, i'll give ya half. Oh, did you know? I am using all the gold we've gathered from our ploys and melting it down into a golden throne for me." He released Merry and slid his gloved hands in the air as if he could help him visualize it. "Can't you just imagine it? I'll look so...good in it." He quickly whirled around back to Merry and wagged a finger at him. "It'll do great to impress the ladies. You'll want to sit in it too, won't you? Well, I guess you can. But only for five minutes. And you have to be thinking about me when you do and about how the GREAT PIRATE BAILEY, allowed you such a time." He said before he suddenly cut off his speech and suddenly whipped his head towards the sea.

Bailey squinted, "What is that?" He mumbled. And like a hurricane he quickly moved to the side of the ship and squinted. "Hey! Look-out, get a look at what that white thing is over there!" He yelled and pointed out. The man above in the little nest of the ship nodded before looking through his scope to take a look at what he was talking about. "Captain! It's a...well..."

"A what?! Speak up, man!" Bailey tapped his foot impatiently.

"Tis a man in a tub!" The man reluctantly yelled back, leaving the crew and Bailey in light surprise, blinking. Then, of course, Baily broke the silence. He whooped up a hard laugh. "Well! This sea has just become interesting! Head to the man in the tub and bring him on board! I want to hear his tale, it'll amuse me. Right, Merry? It looks interesting, doesn't it?"

Merry said nothing, he just yawned again and scratched at his neck. Ropes were itchy, but so was Bailey. Maybe it was time for him to bathe again, but somehow Merry couldn’t be bothered with such a complicated task. Rubbing his cheek and feeling the raspy quality of scrubby stubble starting to form there, he wondered if it made him look more manly. His fiancé had said she’d only go for the strong type, so he’d better shape up. Merry hadn’t understood. He was strong: he could sail a small fisherman’s boat on his own and haul barrels and crates by the dozen.

And as such, the crew requested his assistance with getting the man in the tub on board of the ship. Merry didn’t even question why this man would be in a tub in the middle of the sea, or more surprisingly; how he could still be alive. He could only grab the man’s arm and have every fibre of his dormant survival instinct scream at him to chuck this weird guy back into the sea. But Bailey had wanted him on board and Merry reckoned he would deal with whatever bad luck would follow when it got there.

Tugging the man aboard most ungracefully –there were three men needed to get Raven aboard, because of the dead weight he provided– the two other crew members seemed to instinctively pick up on the eerie vibe the man was emitting and left Merry to support him. Merry on the other hand, completely oblivious to the fact his two companions had tasked him with holding up the stranger, managed to drop him to the wooden floorboards in a very ungainly manner. He stood watching the man a little confusedly. Had he just dropped their guest? He scratched his head, a little unsure what to do.

((Okay, this post fails, but my brain died O_O I dunno what happened. But. It's a post. U_U I'm sorry.))

After drifting around for another hour or so, Raven had decided that since this could quite possibly take forever, he was going to get some more sleep. Arranging his limbs to stay on board this time so as to not be awoken by a fish or something again, he saluted the sun and passed out almost immediately. Sleep came to him so easily, it was a gift, truly.

So when his dreams were rudely disturbed once more- and there had been so much beautiful red in there!- he woke up quite unhappy. This time surrounded by fishermen or something, ropes and lots of wood, he deducted that he had to be on a ship. Well. This was at least a few steps up the ladder from tub. Ships had food. And, as he casually let one eye pass over the crew appreciatively, ships also had food. With a little groan he got up, stretching his cramped muscles and popping a few bones in his spine as he twisted about a little.

"My gratitude for that valiant rescue, whomever one of you it might have been. I was quite positive I was going to go over to the deep end." A smile crawled onto his lips and he turned to observe the crew again, waiting to see that face one could typically mark as the one being in charge of the ship. However, when his eyes came to rest on the big man standing closest to him, he was reminded of the way he had woken up. Quite unpleasant, that had been. And from the looks of it, this was the one who had dumped him here.

"Of course I would not have minded if you had been a tad bit more graceful about it." He gave Merry a smile that screamed 'fake' as much as any of his smiles had ever done and gave him a calculating glance with his eyes before moving on.

[It seems you are not the only one that is having a bad posting day.]

"Yer thanks should be held off to the end."

Bailey spoke, which the crew quickly shifted to the side to expose the young man. He gave a rather crazed grin, as if he had found some treasure that he couldn't wait to monopolize. "First thing first, check his pockets. Anything of value, you guys can keep. And then tie him up. Of course, if he fights you are allowed to kill him." He gave a thoughtful nod before he pulled of his pirate hat and scratched at his scalp through the red and black scarf holding his black hair up. This was a rather normal ritual for anyone they found at sea. Then again, the didn't often find people so finely dressed, drifting in tubs in the mapless parts of the sea. The crew already began to do their duty when Bailey began to look around.

"My chair..." He grumbled in irritation before he spotted near some rope and dragged it over. With a grin, he quickly propped a foot on it and smiled at Raven. "I am the GREAT pirate Bailey. And I am the Captain of this ship." Bailey even managed to puff out his chest before he propped his arm on his knee and leaned over on the chair.

"Tell me, what are you doing out here? You fancy being a meal fer one of the beasts around here?"

Merry’s hair had always been messy and in the way, hanging in front of his eyes in a curtain of shaggy blonde locks. But even despite that fact, he could clearly see the utterly fake quality of that smile. It was the kind of smile a snake gave a mouse, promising not to eat it. It was the kind of smile that even had a big and strong man like Merry feel a shudder go down his spine. There was something definitely wrong with this man. Though it was true he had been anything but grateful, Merry reckoned that he could (and maybe should) have done worse.

But his thoughts were quickly dispelled by Bailey’s next order: to search the man’s pockets. Now, Merry had never considered himself a pirate, so he neither followed the captain’s orders, really. Nor did he feel the need to rummage through Raven’s pockets in search of bounty. As a few other crew members seemed to volunteer for the task, Merry made his way back to the captain in time to catch the man hauling his chair. He knew what would come next. On instinct, Merry whipped out the tiny pirate flag Bailey had provided him with somewhere along the road of their interesting friendship. And as if on cue, he waved the tiny thing around behind Bailey as he proclaimed his name and title, Merry a big puppy of a supporter for the Great Pirate Bailey.

At the new voice, Raven found himself turning around to finally lay eyes on the captain of the ship. Oho? Such a young and... delectable lad. A little chuckle escaped and quickly he replaced it with the smile he had on earlier. No need to have the crew think him a lunatic. Or maybe there was. No, there wasn't. He'd most likely be thrown back overboard and he was hungry, so that wasn't an option.

When the order was given to search his pockets, Raven gleefully spread his arms to allow the crew their search. Maybe they'd come across something he had missed? No matter if they took it now, he would make sure it would enter his possession later on again. As they finished going over his pockets, coming up with nothing as he had expected, one of them brought forth a length of rope and he was pulled back against the mast.

Containing a shiver and making sure his body stayed motionless, he let them pull his arms back to surround the mast before tying him up. Really now, it wouldn't do to burst out in laughter when caught in a predicament such as this one, now would it? He'd most likely insult the Captain and then where would he be? Shaken from his momentary discussion with himself, he looked back to the Captain as the man introduced himself.

With a nod of his head, the only body part he could still move, Raven returned the gesture with a smile. "A pleasure to meet you, indeed, Great Pirate Bailey. My name is..." He cocked his head for a moment to remember what name he had been using ashore and shrugged. No matter, a new one then. "Brennan. I wasn't aware of the fact that there were beasts around this area. I must say, however, that I was having quite a nice nap before I was dropped here." With a giggle le looked over at Merry before turning his attention back to the Captain.

"But to answer your question, no. I do not intent to become anything's food. With any luck it'll be me eating said monsters. If they taste good, that is!" With that he deemed the question properly answered and he gave the man a wink before rolling his shoulder a little.

As usual, Bailey was delighted with Merry's willingness to emphasis how great he truly was. And so, once he was done, gave a big smile in his direction. What would he do without him? ...Many things. But he wouldn't have that flag fluttering behind him, would he? No. And he couldn't lack his flare.

Bailey shoved his large Captain's hat back over his head, black hair caught underneath it smashing against his cheeks. He squinted when his eyes met with the man's, feeling a bit worried at that odd look directed towards him. Was he giving him the eye or something? The crew as well as the Captain were disappointed when the pockets were turned out to only show balls of lint at the bottom and nothing else. The men grumbled and made the ropes extra tight before walking a little ways away. Bailey slid his arms across over his chest as the other finally spoke to him. He rose a black eyebrow at the momentary pause on the name. He had a feeling that, that would come to bite him in the future.

He listened for a moment, and for a while, the crew only gave the man strange looks. While Bailey, on the other hand, grinned and slammed his palm on the other's shoulder with a whooping laugh. "I like ya, Brennan! You've got guts!" He said with another laugh. Was it that shocking that he got along with the weirdo? Bailey pulled his hand back and dropped his chin into his hand, staring down at the other in consideration.

"Well, I can't say I mind too much on givin' ya a ride. Since I like ya. Usually I'd just dump you over the edge and let you swim off into the ocean." He said before his hand dropped to his hips and he bent over towards Raven, his smile wolfish. "But, like I said, I like ya. So, you can stay on my ship until we dock. BUT! You have to pay for your passage just like everyone else. And since you seem to be fairin' badly when it comes to money, I guess we'll have to do with an alternative. Since I'm so nice." He said before he reached forward and patted Raven's cheek.

He then stood up straight and turned to his crew and Merry, then pumped a fist in the air, "Boys! We're goin' fishing! Time to ring up the bait!"

Bailey started heading across the ship, feet clunking against the floor boards before he stopped and crouched down near a small box near his searching glass. He unclipped the golden lock with a flick of his fingers before he opened it and pulled out a rather old book. It was filled with rumpled paper that were out of place and barely contained by the clip on the side of each one. "Alright! Let's see what kind of creatures swim in these waters." He said, turning and walking back to Raven and Merry. "I like ya, Brennan. I really do. But you can't ride fer free. So I'm gonna be usin' you for bait for a while. Don't worry. It's a 50-50 thing. If you don't get eaten, you can stay aboard. If you do, well, you know...."

Fishing? Oh, he loved to fish. And not getting eaten sounded like a well fair deal. Chuckling at the eagerness some of the crew was showing in tossing him overboard again he made a few mental notes to mark his first pray. He looked like he would be able to compensate for the power he was going to use in a bit. No big deal then.

"I do love to fish. And I'm glad you like me, for a moment there I was afraid that you were going to toss me back in!" Giving Bailey another grin he let the sailors untie him from the mast and drag him over.

As he was led over to the side of the ship, he paused and looked at one of the sailors. "Would you mind taking my hat, kind sir? I'd hate to lose it after the trouble someone went to give it to me." After he had received a quite disbelieving look and a shrug his hat had been carefully removed from his head and Raven smiled at the vast expanse of water in front of him.

While most of his people tried to steer clear of the ocean, he loved it. He never understood what their problem was with it and while some claimed to just dislike travelling the sea, he knew it had something to do with the massive amount of deaths that occurred out here. He didn't mind those at all, he had enough power to back it up, did he not? With an artful hop, he found himself on the wooden banister. Turning around, still tied up and fully clothed, he gave Bailey a little nod.

"I do hope I catch something big, I'm feeling quite hungry after my nap."

With that, he tipped his head at the men standing and jumped overboard. The moment he was underwater, he wriggled his way out of the ropes and checked his surroundings. Opening his eyes underwater always made them sting a little, but then he kind of liked the burning sensation it left. This was why he loved the ocean, all those dead bodies littering the ocean floor, just begging for him to use them. Flexing his fingers, he spotted something down below, resting on a wreck. Squid. A big one. A mad grin split his face in two and he checked the ship for it's previous crew. Still there. Excellent.

Summoning a man or two was not taxing at all and he made short work of luring the squid away from it's den and up. It attacked him and as he used the rope he had been tied to to circle it, he found what he had been looking for. Old rusty metal from the bottom of the sea.

What followed was quite a lively battle, but all that the men on board of the ship could see was a big bubble of blood welling up out of the water, a lot of shaking of the ship itself and then the Giant Squid itself drifting up. Raven felt quite accomplished as he dove up next to it.

[I'm taking some liberty with Necro powers as it's not very clear what they are.]

When Bailey smiled at him, Merry managed to smile back. The corners of his lips quirked upwards rather lazily, the half-lidded eyes behind the curtain of his dirty blonde hair closing in a feeling reminiscent to joy. He liked to make Bailey smile. The pirate captain looked like a little kid when he did. Someone Merry could play big brother to. It gave him a sense of belonging somewhere.

Lost in this blissful moment for a little while, Merry’s brain checked back in when Bailey announced they would be going fishing. Now here was an area of expertise he could tell volumes about. If he had a voice, that is. Apart from that one incident where he had dropped in the ocean, was saved by a sea witch and lost his voice, Merry considered himself a very good fisherman. He blinked. Wait, there was that time he met Bailey for the first time as well, that storm. He thought deeper. And that one time where he had booked passage on a ship, offered to help out fishing and had ended up on an island for some strange reason (Merry couldn’t remember just what had happened that time). He pondered it. There was another incident teasing his brain at the edge of his memories, but they had all been pushed back and stored in a compartment of his brain he didn’t use very often.

Watching his companion reach for the old leatherbound book Merry had seen a couple of times before, He wondered what was in it. The captain’s log? A bestiary? Pirate Granny’s recipe for Parlay Parfait? One could never be certain with Bailey. He never found out, either, as the Necromancer they had picked up put a few bonechilling antics on display. Bidding them farewell with a giggle, he threw himself over the railing of the ship to land in the water with an audible splash. Merry was close enough to the side of the boat to throw a look over the rail. There were shadows under the water, but he couldn’t see anything else. Brennan did not resurface.

Idly wondering if the man had just drowned himself, Merry yawned again. The fisherman crossed both arms on the railing and leaned on them heavily, keeping half an eye out for anything to happen. He wondered if crazy people like Brennan floated in the water, too. He was about to close his eyes to resume his nap because Bailey hadn’t asked him to do anything about the aforementioned fishing trip, when a big bubble surfaced in the water. The sound was frightening, all rushing water and blood, shaking the ship that Merry had to grab hold of the banister not to end up rolling all the way to the other side of the ship. He didn’t feel like another dive into hostile waters and lose another of his senses.

A dead squid the size of a small building surfaced from the deep and the fisherman looked at it in wonder, his brows shooting up high. Did Brennan have anything to do with that squid? If so, Merry wondered if the crazy man was able to hunt down sea witches to return his voice as well. He might finally get married if he had his voice back . . . rather excited by this thought, Merry trudged his way towards Bailey and pulled his sleeve to catch his attention, pointing out the obvious. Brennan was a dangerous man. They had better keep him as a friend. And maybe have the loony do some useful stuff for them.

[If you have any questions about the Necrotheists, please ask raynor.foxhound, the creator of the race. But, from what I see- they steal away the life force of other creatures to keep themselves alive and to do powerful spells. If you want to question on what kind of spells, message the creators. Summoners are actually the ones that can bring things to life from the dead, I believe.]

The crew stared in horror at the blood and bubbling that came up, afraid of exactly was eating their new bait. But, soon, they were surprised to see the monster's dead body come up instead. They gave reluctant looks at each other, unsure of exactly what was going. Especially with the force that shook the whole haul of his ship had left their limbs. All except Bailey, apparently, who had his arms crossed over his chest and was looking down in the water curiously. He flicked his gray gaze over to Merry but he ended up grinning before he dropped a hand to pat at the other's.

"It's fine, Merry. I never take on anything I can't handle. Besides...this might get terribly interestin'. For now, we're going to treat him with the hospitality from a pirate." He said before he pulled of his Captain hat and slapped on Merry's head. He gave a childish grin before he walked to the railing along the ship and gave a sharp whistle.

"Ain't ya impressive?! I guess a deal is a deal. Welcome to my ship, Brennan. If that is yer name. Since you were able to kill that thing without too much trouble, i'm bettin' you can drag you arse from out of the ocean and back on the ship before we leave you behind, can't ya?" He said before he flicked his fingers in a wave. He pushed himself off the railing and turned back to Merry. He smiled big. "Merry, I'm gonna leave you in charge of watching him. Have to make sure he doesn't try anything funny. If he does anything weird, come and get me. I'll kill him myself." Seeming rather confident on his abilities, he puffed out his chest and tilted his head up.

[Eh, sorry. I think I'm mixing up Necrotheists and Necromancers in my head @_@ Uhm, I'll not summon any more dead people, but... I have had a discussion about this with Lid'l. If Raynor doesn't reply to my pm, what do I do then? Because the race sheet says they're formidable warriors and they can kill people easily, but.. how are they these warriors? What kind of spells do they use and what do those rituals do?]

Bailey's words made him giggle a bit again as he swam over to the ship. Who had thought that the captain would turn out to be such an interesting creature? Oh well, at least he could be sure that he was going to enjoy himself on board. Finding the rope that someone had tossed over for him, Raven pulled himself up deftly, wondering if they were even going to use the squid. It made quite tasty food, in his opinion.

Reaching the deck again he shook out his hair, took his hat from the still slightly stupefied sailor and put it back on his head. Salt water was such a big no if you wore black clothing like he did. He gazed down at his clothes a bit mournfully and sighed. He was probably going to have to replace these as he got back on land. Such a pity. They were of a great quality.

Looking around he spotted the big guy that had dropped him earlier with the captains hat now perching on his head. A grin kept up to him. Maybe a little messing around with this one would keep him entertained for the time being. Walking over with his best smirk on, he tapped the guy on the arm. Just a tap. He wondered if Big and Strong thought he was some sort of freak. Wait. He giggled. He was.

Merry had never been much of the leader type. He was the kind of guy that followed in the footsteps of other, smarter and more charismatic people. So when Bailey put him in charge of a task, it took the fisherman a short while to completely wrap his mind around the concept. Behind the dirty blonde bangs that obscured his vision, his eyes scanned the board of the ship for said guest he was supossed to watch. It wouldn't bode very well for him if he would lose Brennan from the beginning, now would it?

He was tapped on the arm and there he was. A charming and delightful gin was plastered on Brennan's face, but Merry could tell it was a farce. It made a chill run down his spine, but his apathetic mind succesfully kept the shiver from spreading through his body, keeping a stoic face. He wasn't able to tell Brennan the task that had been placed upon him, so he had to make do with some crude sign language. With two fingers, Merry pointed at his own eyes, hidden behind a curtain of way too long hair. Then, he pointed at Brennan, indicating that he had his eyes on the man at all time. Bailey had asked him to watch Brennan and Merry always did what Bailey asked of him. He owed the Captain at least that much.
