I've decided that it's more where the individual draws the line and why. I know a lot of people are vegetarian/vegan due to the ethical issues of consuming animal product or flesh because the animals obviously can't speak for themselves, so they base their decision on the assumption that if animals WERE capable of speech, they'd probably speak up against getting killed and eaten. Which is probably a logical assumption.
Regardless of whether that is or is not the case, humans, as we know, are perfectly capable of speech, thus, if they/we did not want to volunteer their/our er... animal product, we could speak up and hopefully our wishes would be respected. It really becomes a nonissue after that. xDDDD
