Appearance: Terribly vain, Raziel is always well groomed: impeccable unblemished and elaborate outfits, a slight amount of make-up to highlight his young beauty – every detail is carefully thought out before he will tread outside the sanctity of his church home. He favours light colours in clothing because they go well with his complexion and the cream-coloured material of his shroud. His shroud is a short cloak with small feathery white wings attached: he is the vision of an angel. But those who know him, know better than that. Raziel’s hair is a half-long collection of rich, chestnut-coloured curls that are usually pulled back with a ribbon or into a braid. His eyes are a deep golden, characteristic for his race.

Personality: Raziel is a very professional person that hardly ever smiles. He knows which words to say and how to say them to create a situation that will make the most of profit for him (he can be very greedy). His good looks have made him grow vain and very confident, bordering on arrogant. He relies on others to do his dirty work for him, bribing them with either money or other promises. He is widely known as ‘The Retriever’ and the fame might have gone to his head a little bit.

But there is a far more gentle and playful side to him, a side he does not show the outside world. Only his two companions Fernando and Jaquire and those select few that have earned his trust have ever seen this side of Raziel. He loves his companions Fernando and Jaquire very much and does not shy away from lavishing them with affection when they are alone, often teasing them.

History: When she was 15, Raziel’s human mother fell in love with a fallen angel. One month later, the angel disappeared from her life. Nine months later, she gave birth to him, which was the most shameful event that had ever befallen the noble Youngblood family. The family covered up the scandal by raising Raziel as his grandparents’ child – his mother’s little brother. Raziel only found out the truth at the age of 15 himself, when his mother fell ill and was tormented by delusions. She called him her son and begged the world to return her angel to her.

Raziel had always loved her very much, as a sister or a mother, and she was in retrospect, his first client. Raziel swore to retrieve her angel and make her happy again, thinking that maybe meeting the fallen angel again would put her heart at ease and provide her with some sort of healing. At 16, he left the Youngblood house and started up a retrieval agency to look for his father and to be able to sustain himself.

But he wasn’t able to do it on his own, so when Raziel met a closed-off young monk wanting to die, he offered him an alternative: become a retrieval agent alongside of him to make other people happy again. It wasn't long until Raziel encountered a second lost soul: a demonized winged that seemed to scare off everyone around him. Unafraid, he offered Jaquire the same alternative as Fernando. They have been a strong trio in the retrieval business ever since, taking on all kinds of jobs (but only if they make enough profit). While they are making a name for themselves, Raziel still has his eyes open for that one fallen angel to finally succesfully complete his very first retrieval mission.

Occupation/Job: Retrieval agent.
Interesting Facts/Quirks: Raziel has a bad case of hay fever and will grow all snotty and bloated when it’s the season. He prefers to lock himself inside during this period. Also, the three retrieval agents have taken up residence in an old church, where the rooms are scarce and they share everything. Raziel is very clear on one point of their retrieval business and the church: they never, under any circumstance bring a client to the sanctity of their home. They always go out to meet a (potential) client. And lastly, Raziel is somewhat of a chain smoker, using his Spirit Catcher’s pipe to inhale either cinnamon or vanilla-scented tobacco whenever Fernando isn’t looking after (and scolding) him.

Hobby/Hobbies: Reading and learning; traveling the world to see new things; eating sweets and fruits; teasing Fernando by stealing his glasses and wearing them himself; teasing Jaquire by pinching his cheeks and forcing a smile onto his lips.

Likes: A job well done; people doting over him; to be the one doing the talking; being close to both Fernando and Jaquire; violin and cello music (he loves to go down to the theater and visit concerts); going for Sunday afternoon rides; the mysterious 'Collector' (they keep him in the business).
Dislikes: Fernando and Jaquire bickering (it tires him out); rainy days; children and their nagging for toys and attention and sweets; receiving calls and/or letters from his family; sea shells.

Strength: His analytic and negotiating character. He can turn any situation to his advantage with words or throwing his good looks into the game. His second strength is his vast information network. Raziel has a lot of contacts that are all willing to give or sell him information other people might have a hard time acquiring.
Weakness/Flaw: Like to most Spirit Catchers, Raziel’s shroud is his weakest spot. He will have to do the bidding of the one who holds it. Second, his pride and vanity are flaws that can make him lose his composure.

Anything else to add: Raziel is a very fussy eater. He dislikes fish, potatoes, red meat, carrots, milk, onions, leeks, shellfish, tomatoes (especially tomatoes), rice, bread, cheese, anything deep-fried or overly fatty/greasy, meat pie, vegetable stew, corn (but he only dislikes it when it’s still on the cob), oysters, toast, eggplant, peas, beans, sprouts and bananas. He’s horrible at trying out new dishes and will not eat anything which name he can’t pronounce.

Roleplay sample: It was too late to be night, yet still too early to be called morning. Fernando and Jack had been tossing and turning all through the night, trying to steal the blankets from each other. It seemed that even when they slept, they could not give their rivalry a rest. Raziel had been caught up in the middle, sleeping soundly and unaware until a blue sheen of light had started to drip into the church through one of the many stained glass windows to wake him. Raziel had untangled himself from his lovers and crawled his way to the foot of the bed, nimbly climbing out of it without waking the two.

On light feet, he padded towards the vanity cabinet where he kept his Spirit Catcher’s pipe and stuffed it with the expensive vanilla-scented tobacco he held dear. Sitting down in front of the mirror, nude safe for his shroud, Raziel breathed in the potent smoke and could feel the spirits in the church’s graveyard jerk awake with the blasphemy of him abusing his pipe so. The young lord willed the spirits to calm down, lest they wake the even darker presences that lay sleeping in the catacombs. It wasn’t often he was allowed to indulge his guilty pleasure and he could feel his toes curl in delight as smoke filled his longs and sweetened his breath. It wasn’t long until the whole church smelled of vanilla, the fragrance thick on the air like incense.

He counted down the time until Fernando was at his side to advise him not to smoke and Jack waking up with a colourful curse down to the very second. Another day had begun and Raziel smiled a secretive smile.
